Russian Lawlessness

No one has benefited more from an environment of unregulated capital flows and the tenets of globalization than organized crime. Much of their business can be legitimized by this environment. In passing we have mentioned that unregulated capital is a boon to organized crime in the past few years but it's obviously not a focus of mine. Yet, volatility is. An environment where organized crime flourishes obviously lends itself to increased volatility.

Interestingly, Harry Markopolis, the individual who begged the SEC to look into Madoff's Ponzi scheme numerous times over the last nine years also mentions the involvement of organized crime in the global financial system during his Madoff testimony before Congress.

George Orwell would be proud.
