Will Hunting Had It Right

Let's end our little three part series about the American political establishment's great altruism in search of the Nobel Peace Prize with a little bit of entertainment. A shocking prescience by the writer(s) of this scene nearly fifteen years ago. I believe Matt Damon wrote most of this movie's script.

We have written post after post on the distinction between the state and a democratic government. We even wrote in detail how the state has created an environment in today's world that is primed for global conflict or war.

Essentially the state is the bureaucracy which resides outside of the view of transparency that serves a purpose of control and power. Democratic government being that which is transparent, just and serves the will of a free people. In China, for example, the bureaucracy we call government is comprised completely of the state. It has one intent - control and power. In the United States, the creep of the state over the last few decades has been staggering. And that creep is clearly at the expense of democratic self rule. Just something to think about while watching this clip.
