Frank Rich: Billionaires Attempting To Manipulate Society For Their Own Self-Interest

"I cannot accept your canon that we are to judge Pope and King unlike other men with a favourable presumption that they did no wrong. If there is any presumption, it is the other way, against the holders of power, increasing as the power increases. Historic responsibility has to make up for the want of legal responsibility. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority, still more when you superadd the tendency or certainty of corruption by full authority. There is no worse heresy than the fact that the office sanctifies the holder of it. " -- John Dalberg-Acton

Let's be frank. Very few people who spend their entire lifetimes with an intent of serving the god of money have similar virtues, ideals and interests as the vast majority of Americans do. They are driven by power, greed and control. That's not to say being wealthy is a bad thing. It's only bad when serving the masters of power and control are the intent. Contrarily, those who spend their lives serving power and control are the most untrustworthy and deceptive in society. In other words, 'one person-one vote' is not typically the agenda of someone willing to spend untold millions of dollars manipulating the media, society or our government. Money is typically used to hijack democracy, not to spread it.

We have remarked and shown poll results that the largest political party in the United States is now the vastly diverse composition of independents. The Tea Party started as such a movement of independence from political idiots in Washington. That movement has been hijacked by Washington retreads trying to control the movement and shape its message into a self-serving elitist agenda which fits their objective. That big money is flowing into this attempt to hijack a grass roots movement confirms that if these retreads are successful, it will be an attempt to move this party in a direction which supports elitists.

Frank's article links to a story in the New Yorker that I have not read yet but I expect to this weekend. The billionaire Koch brothers' war against Obama. There are countless legitimate reasons to oppose the current political ideology of the White House and Washington but if you believe your values align with the Koch brothers, I've got some land to sell you in St Bernard's Parish. Elitists would dismantle this country for their own benefit if they could. How do I know this? Because that is exactly what they have been doing for the last thirty-odd years. And the economic environment we are witnessing today is clear evidence they have been very busy destroying our democratic institutions and our social fabric.

There are many valid views of democracy and Frank Rich presents just one of many perspectives, but when a ruling class has managed to thieve away almost all of society's wealth and call it 'free markets' we can pretty much be certain that the Koch brothers aren't here to save society or democracy but are in fact acting in their own self-interest of power and control. It is this dynamic which has destroyed our society.
