A rather timely 60 Minutes story given our last post. 60 Minutes looks at the efforts of communist China to rob American blind. It would have been nice if they had given a historical context.
It was first under the Clinton administration that China learned America was for sale. Or, should I say, could be bought. The Clinton administration was one of the most, if not the most unethical in American history. Something we have cited on here numerous times. The Clinton administration was involved in numerous scandals with regards to China including the infamous Chinagate. Scandals which were generally "contained". Scandals that many consider treasonous. Regardless, Clinton and Gore's involvement in these messes have paid well. Both have earned hundreds of millions of dollars since leaving office. And it's arguable much of the dynamics behind those earnings were greased while serving as our public servants. Public servants we hired to guard our society.
"Diplomacy is a disguised war, in which states seek to gain by barter and intrigue, by the cleverness of arts, the objectives which they would have to gain more clumsily by means of war. " -- Randolph Bourne
Might I add barter (as referenced by Bourne above) for personal gain because the state does not serve society but serves elitists who serve themselves. Remember in our last post we talked about the connection of neoliberalism, elitism and the state. I believe the Clinton Presidency personified these connections.
